Several years ago while Superintendent of schools at Iroquois Central School in Western New York the district embarked upon some exciting initiatives in an attempt to reform high schools as we know it. We made some significant changes as to how we educate our high school students. As I move on in my own learning and career, it is my intention to continue to effect change in how we educate our children in the 21st Century and prepare them for life in a globally oriented society

Unfortunately I believe many of us are not. As I give back the last of the cell phones that were confiscated today and go over the new list of websites to block because they use up so much of our bandwidth, I wonder if we cannot make progress because we cannot get out of our own way? I am a blogging neophyte and have taken this opportunity to put the same "video" on the phsprincipal.blogspot.com blog for my staff and community to ponder. Thanks for your thought provoking blog!
You're right on target. We're the ones that often set up obstacles. While we do need to be sure we are "protected", there is more time spent discussing the "what if's", than making decisions that benefit our students. Sometimes you just need to do what's right.
Thanks for the response Dave.
For those of us who grew up in the generations when machines were expansive and sometimes irreplaceable, our fear of technology stands in the way of our progress with these tools in the classroom - it may break I may not be able to requistion another one is the age old lament. I do believe that hope for the future of our students is changing this attitude however. The change has to be embaraced at the top more needs to be done at faculty meetings to introduce podcasts and slide shares that are thought provoking to teachers. The more educational leaders embrace this change the more apt teachers are to use the web 2.0 tools. I will use the download you embedded in your blog at the next faculty meeting I lead.
You got me thinking! I just e-mailed my phone company asking for some advice on setting up free texting between the students in my class and my phone. Can't wait to see what the response it.
